The 66th edition of the Taormina FilmFest, directed for the first time this year by Leo Gullotta and Francesco Calogero, ends with great success with live and online audiences. The festival, one of the first to resume after the Covid-19 emergency in theaters and streamed on MYmovies.it, was produced and organized by Videobank S.p.A. courtesy of the Taormina Arte Sicilia Foundation, under the patronage of the Regional Tourism, Sports and Entertainment Department. A varied programming in Room A of the Palazzo dei Congressi in Taormina, daily hosted - with free admission and by reservation - the projections of the International Competition of first and second works, while the online programming offered a richer programming, available for 24 hours , accompanied by a daily in-depth strip, on the Festival's Facebook page at 8.45 pm with video documents, archive images, suggestive emotional shots and guest interventions, narrating a festival that is only partially virtual. The guests of the festival are prestigious and international, rewarded for their respective careers. First of all, the three-time Oscar winner, the Director of Cinematography Vittorio Storaro, awarded the Golden Cariddi for Lifetime Achievement, then the journalist Laura Delli Colli, President of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma, of the SNGCI - National Union of Italian Film Journalists and Tapes Silver, awarded with the Taormina Arte Award and the Danish star of the Game of Thrones series, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, awarded with the Taormina Arte Award.The closing ceremony of the festival at the Ancient Theater will be presented by the artistic director Leo Gullotta, with the music of the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, exceptionally conducted by Alvise Casellati and the band The Magic Door. All the prizes delivered are made by the Master Goldsmith Michele Affidato.Among these, that of the Ciak Scuola Film Fest, whose jury is made up of 30 students from institutes of Messina and Milazzo, led by the coordinator John Bungay Lay, the result of an agreement between the National Competition for School Cinematography and Videobank s.p.a. The award goes to "Oskar & Lilli" by Arash T. The golden Chariddi for best film goes to Onkel by Frelle Petersen (Denmark).SILVER CARIDDI FOR BEST DIRECTIONAn exciting and overwhelming story, with a surprising development for a story of social realism, interpreted by a great cast, with a tight editing and excellent photography, as well as exceptional music and sound. The Silver Chariddi for best direction goes to Charter by Amanda Kernell (Sweden).SPECIAL MENTION OF THE JURYThe Jury has decided to award a special mention to La hija de un ladron by Belèn Funes (Spain), a modern, high-powered first work, under the direction of a group of extraordinary actors, which recounts the battle for economic survival and daily affective.POLYPHEMUS MASK FOR THE BEST ACTRESSA refined interpretation, capable of progressively involving the viewer until he accepts a character of any woman, even a little distant from life, who will eventually reveal all his humanity by allowing the public to participate in it. The Polyphemus Mask for the best actress goes to Daria Lorenci for the film Mater by Jure Pavlovic (Croatia).POLYPHEMUS MASK FOR THE BEST ACTORWith a great charisma, few words and few gestures, an interpretation that manages to express a strong civil and human sensitivity, which perfectly tells the contradictions of a deeply wounded country. The Polyphemus Mask for Best Actor goes to Bakhtiyar Panjeei for Nader Saeivar's film Namo / The Alien (Iran).DOCUMENTARY JURYThe Documentary jury, chaired by director Goran Devic and composed by director Antonio Falduto and director Christian Bisceglia decreedBest film of the Documentary CompetitionParadise Without People by Francesca Trianni (States"For the commitment and the ability to capture in an effective and sincere language the moment in which dreams become illusions and illusions reality. The prize for the best documentary goes to an intimate and minimalist film.
