9/9/2019 - Film Schedule at House of Cinema
On Saturday 14 September kicks off at the House of Cinema the Taormina Star Review, a selection of films shot in Taormina, with the screening of Gitarren klingen leise durch die Nacht (1959) by Hans Deppe, in the original version with specially made Italian subtitles. The schedule continues every weekend for over a month with an exceptional selection of films that have made some of the city's iconic views famous around the world. Among the titles Restless Meat (1957) by Silvestro Prestifilippo, The Wonderful Image (1951) by Richards Brooks, Ambush on the Sea (1955) by Piero Mercanti, The Adventure (1960) by Michelangelo Antonioni, Private Visions (1989) by Francesco Calogero, A Love of Gide ( 2008) by Diego Ronsisvalle, The Other Plate of the Scale (1972) by Mario Colucci and also two rarities, two silent films in black and white: The Call of Blood (1919) by Louis Mercanton and The Confessions of a Woman (1928) by Amleto Palermi. The Foundation Taormina Arte Sicily enriches the autumn and winter cultural activity, the one most expensive to the City of Taormina, in the cinema room of the Casa del cinema with the section La Sicilia of the Italian cinema Filmmakers, some masterpieces of Italian cinema with subtitles English films that show Sicily in all its contradictions and beauties, a section especially wanted for foreign tourists present in Taormina: Divorce Italian style (1961) by Pietro Germi, Stromboli, land of God (1950) of Roberto Rossellini, Salvatore Giuliano (1961) by Francesco Rosi, Seduced & Abandoned (1964) by Pietro Germi, The Earth Will Tremble (1947) by Luchino Visconti. On September 29th the House of Cinema in collaboration with Naxos Legge will open the doors of the archive of Taormina Arte one afternoon that will reveal in part through a video thirty-five years of the history of the festival: photos, posters, articles of its successfulshows . On October 18th and 19th, however, two full afternoons will be dedicated to the CineMigrare, the third International Review of Cinema without Borders, in collaboration with the No-Name Association.
